How Jefield works

The whole product on one page. Each part links to a guide that walks you through it.

Projects

A project is a canvas: frames at any size, with shapes, type and pictures on them, in layers. Start one from Home in a sentence, from a size, or from a template. Export a frame as PNG (up to 3x), SVG or PDF, or every frame as one PDF.

Templates

Files

Everything you bring in. Drop or choose files and each one is kept exactly as it came. The same file is stored once, however many projects use it. A file opens in the editor made for it.

Bring in your files

Editors

  • Photo: light, colour, looks, detail, crop, straighten, turn, remove, cut out a background, blur a background. TIFF, HEIC (where the browser reads it), GIF and BMP open as pictures.
  • Layers: layered editing with Photoshop's tools and keys: layers, masks, adjustment layers, selections, free transform. A PSD or PSB opens here with its layers and is saved as a PSD; a JPG or PNG saved from Layers keeps its format, with its layers kept beside it. Open from Jefield and Place from Jefield bring in what you already kept; Open in moves a picture to Photo and back.
  • Video: cut, trim, reorder, speed, volume, words and captions over the picture, designs from your projects laid on it and kept linked to them, frame shapes from 16:9 to 9:16, exported as video, and the cuts handed to other editing apps as EDL, FCPXML or OTIO. Save writes the video and keeps the edit beside it, so the next time you open it every cut, clip and song is still there to change.
  • Sound: trim, delete, silence, fade, gain, normalize, reverse, speed, append, record a voice, clean up a voice. Exports WAV, and a smaller file where your browser can make one.
  • Documents: Markdown and text with write, split and preview; Word files edited as themselves. Exports Markdown, text, a web page and PDF.
  • Code: highlighting for over a hundred languages, live preview for HTML, SVG and Markdown, find and replace, many cursors.
  • Motion: a frame of any project on one timeline (Open in Motion, from the board): keyframes, easing and a Graph Editor, masks and track mattes, entrances as presets (or one for every layer), loops and effects, exported as MP4, WebM, GIF or Lottie for apps and the web.
  • Prototype: on the board, connect frames and choose Smart animate; Present plays the connections the way they will feel.
  • Mockups: a frame placed on a mockup is a smart object: edit its contents, choose Auto, Fill or Fit, and bend the surface with Arc, Bend, Perspective or Mesh.
  • PDF: pages reordered, turned, inserted, extracted; text, pictures, shapes and a pen added; the file's own words and shapes changed where the file allows; forms filled; a signature drawn. Illustrator files that keep PDF compatibility open here too.

Versions

Whatever you change, the original stays. Save and you get the next version; Save as copy makes a new file that remembers where it came from. Every file's Versions list shows each one, what made it and when, lets you download it, and lets you go back, which is a new version too.

Keep every version

Templates

Fifty-three, made in the Jefield studio. Using one makes a project of your own; its photographs land in your Files, so you can replace or edit them. Any project can be saved as your own template.

Your brand: on Templates, choose Learn a brand and drop a guidelines PDF, a logo or a picture. Jefield reads the colours the file paints and the fonts it is set in, on your device; you check and name it, and it's kept as a file. With it on, every template wears your colours (darks to your darks, lights to your lights, accents to your accents) and your faces where this device has them.

Quick tools

Merge PDFs, split a PDF, compress a PDF, PDF to images (PNG or JPG, at 72, 150 or 300 dpi, the resolution written into each file), images to PDF, convert pictures and resize them (SVG drawings too, redrawn sharp at up to 400%). All in your browser; nothing is uploaded. Compress brings the pictures inside down to the resolution the PDF is for (150 ppi for screen and email, 300 for print), measured where each is drawn; text and drawings are never touched, and CMYK pictures pass through as they are.

Sync and sign-in

Your library lives on your device. Sign in with Google and it's sealed with its own key and kept in the cloud too, so every device you sign in on opens the same library. Free accounts sync up to 5 GB, and Settings shows how much is used. A file that doesn't fit, or is over 250 MB, stays on the device it was added on and opens there; names and edits keep travelling.

Your library as files: Settings, Your library, Download a backup gives every project and file, every version, in one .zip. Restore from a backup fills in whatever is missing and overwrites nothing; a backup of another library comes in as new projects and files.

Together

In a project, choose Share. Jefield makes the project its own sealed space (a key of its own, apart from your library), and gives you two links: an edit link and a view link. Whoever opens one is in the project with you: their name and cursor on your screen and yours on theirs, changes sent directly between your screens in a fraction of a second, and the shelf keeping the record, so a device that was offline catches up when it's back. Stop sharing ends it for everyone: the shelf's copy goes, the others' stops changing, and each can keep one of their own as it stood. Delete for everyone also takes the project off their devices; a copy someone kept as their own stays theirs. Roles per person are planned.

Work on a project together

Community

Publish a project as a template from the editor's Project panel: a name, a sentence, public or by link only, and photographs only if you choose. Anyone can use it, like it (once) and comment; projects made from it remember it. You can take down your own templates and comments.

What's next

Coming: making and changing things with AI in words, opening files from Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive, roles per person in shared projects, and Claude Desktop. None of these is here yet; each will say so until it is.
